cnSeveral studies have investigated the thermal comfort properties of a variety of knitted and woven fabrics. Fabrics with finer fibers exhibited better thermal comfort properties.
The thermal comfort properties of the fabric were studied in relation to its structural parameters. For example, a bi-layer knitted fabric with a mesh on one side had better air permeability than the other. The effect of yarn material composition was also investigated. It was found that the thermal resistance decreased with the use of cotton yarn, while it was decreased with the use of combed yarns. Moreover, the thermal resistance decreased with the use of finer polyester yarn. The yarn hairiness was found to have the most significant impact on air permeability.

The thermal comfort properties of the knitted fabric were investigated with multiple linear regression equations. The results showed that the thickness of the fabric had the largest effect on the air permeability. Moreover, the mass per unit area had the greatest effect on heat resistance.
The study also found that the thermal comfort properties of the knitted fabric were better with the use of a lower rib count. The effect of the loop length was also studied.
